Written By Brent Johnson Daily News Record Looking for proof that the whole is often greater than the sum of it’s parts? See the Harrisonburg Turks. Harrisonburg, in first place in the Valley Baseball League, leads the league in batting (.281) and ERA (1.61). That’s despite the fact that the Turks (13-4) have no individual players in the top 10 in batting and just one (Rod Brantley, 1.47) in ERA. Still, the Turks’ team batting ranks 15 points higher than the Staunton Braves’ second-ranking .266 mark. And Harrisonburg’s team ERA is 94 points lower than the Luray Wranglers’ second-ranking 2.55 mark.
