A Week’s Look Back at the Turks

Harrisonburg 15-7 overall, 1.5 games back After holding first place in the Valley League for the past two weeks, Harrisonburg fell a half game back of the Waynesboro Generals due to a combination of rain outs and a two game loosing streak. The Turks still lead the league in offense and pitching with a .286 average and 126 runs scored, while also posting a 2.10 ERA. While the offense still performed well last week (.310 batting average), the pitching let the Turks down posting a 4.24 ERA. Starter Rod Brantley did his part to straighten out the Harrisonburg staff by going eight shut out innings, giving up three hits with six strikeouts and a .120 opponents batting average. Another starter, Tim Wheeler, went 1-0 after going seven innings giving up one unearned run. Catcher Robert Taylor led all hitters with a .500 batting average adding two doubles, a home run, and four RBIS and three runs scored. Turks Player of the Week, Robert Taylor, from Arkansas-Little Rock. Robert went 3-4, with 2 runs, 2 RBI, 1 double, and 1 home run against Woodstock. He is hitting 447/480/638 over 47 at-bats so far this season for the Turks, after hitting 297/341/485 in 202 at-bats for the ALR Trojans this spring.
