04/21/2008 – Turks Tidbits
Sun Belt Sports News Congratulations to Tim Wheeler of Troy who was named Sun Belt pitcher of the week. The sophomore lefty tossed his first ever complete game shut-out in the opening game of the conference series with UALR. Wheeler didn’t allow a run in the contest and only issued five hits on 100 pitches. During his outstanding performance he did not allow a runner past second base in the entire game while walking two and striking out two. The Trojan ace allowed more than one hit only once in an inning for the game when he gave up two singles in the eighth inning. Wheeler recorded 17 ground ball outs while his defense turned four double plays behind him. Wheeler, a 2006-07 Turk Alumni, enjoyed facing former Turk team mates Ashur Tolliver, David Klump, and Robert Taylor from ULAR. The Turks are definitely pulling for Tim in the upcoming MLB Draft. However, if things don’t work out there we’re looking forward to having him back for another successful summer in Harrisonburg.
