Turks Player of the Week 5

07/12/2009 – Turks Tidbits

Week 5 was another close call to select our Turks Player of the Week. Contributions from the Turks pitchers made it a tough choice with great starts from Garrett Parker, Drew Granier and Ali Simpson leading the Turks four-game unbeaten streak into the All-Star Break. RHP Garrett Parker (Oklahoma City U.) had a strong outing on July 8th against the VBL and Southern Division leader, Staunton Braves. In 7 innings Parker had 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned runs 1 walk and 10 strike outs. RHP Drew Granier (Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C.) picked up his 4th win of the season (4-0) in the July 10th win over the New Market Rebels. Granier had a strong performance for 8 innings with 5 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and 13 strike outs. Ali Simpson (Bethune Cookman U.) improved his record to 3-0 and got the 5-4 win over the Luray Wranglers on July 11th. Simpson pitched 6 innings with 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 4 walks, and 9 strike outs.

Bobby Brown had another solid week for the Turks as well, keeping his average over .350. However, Thomas Nichols, IF/RHP (Georgia Tech) gets the nod this week. Thomas hit .378 with 3 doubles, 3 RBI, 1 HR, 4 BB. Nichols also came in the 9th inning against the Rebels to shut the door and grab a big save on the mound in a 2-1 win over New Market.

The Texas Steakhouse Player of the Week #5 for the Harrisonburg Turks is IF/ RHP Thomas Nichols (Georgia Tech). Congratulations Thomas on a very productive week. Keep up the good work !!!
