Harrisonburg Turks Shine On The List Perfect Game writer, Allan Simpson, just released his 2011 All American Summer League Team. The Harrisonburg Turks were fortunate enough to have two of their players make the list.
2011 Harrisonburg Turk outfielder Mac Williamson (Wake Forest U.) was a vital part of guiding the Turks to a league best 34-14 record. Williamson led the team with 10 home runs and a .381 batting average, while he was second on the team with 38 RBIs and third on the team with 11 doubles. Williamson went 48-for-126 at the plate for the season. Mr. Simpson’s comment on Williamson was, ” Easily top slugger in Valley League at .381-10-38, but season ended prematurely when fouled ball off foot.”
Williamson was named to the South Team of the 2011 Valley Bas eball League All Star Team. He won the All Star Home Run Derby Contest with 9 home runs.
Williamson also received honors being named the Harrisonburg Turks Player of the Week for Weeks 3 and 4. He was also named twice as the Central Division Valley League Player of the Week. Former Harrisonburg Turk (2009 and 2010) outfielder Shaun Cooper (Utah) played in the Northwoods League and was a member of the 2011 Mankato Moon Dogs. Cooper tore up the Northwoods with a league best 20 home runs, 61 RBIS, and also stole 15 bases. Cooper also collected honors for his outstanding play this summer in Mankato. He was named the Perfect Game Summer League Player of the Year, the Northwoods League MVP, and made the Northwoods All Star Team.
