Visiting Rockbridge Deals Turks First Loss

W: Jones (1-0)
L: Willson (0-1)

The Rockbridge Rapids (2-0) combined for eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings to deal the Harrisonburg Turks (2-1) their first loss of the season, 9-3.

The Turks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by the end of the third, but Chris Willson (0-1) gave up seven runs through the fifth inning and Rockbridge never looked back. The Rapids, led by Garrett Furr (3/4, 5 RBI) led 8-3 in the top of ninth when Anthony Zarrella capped the night with his first home run of the season.

The Turks took their cues at the plate from third baseman Jake Roberts, who ended the night 2/4 with an RBI. Charlie Morgan continued his hot start with his second home run in as many home games. Harrisonburg managed eight hits but left too many runners on base to match the Rapids’ midgame offensive spurt.

Ryan Jones (1-0) earned the win for Rockbridge. He struck out five batters and went for 5.2 innings.

The Turks return to Veterans’ Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 5 to host the Waynesboro Generals.
