Harrisonburg’s Joshua Karr has been named Pitcher of the Week for the Valley League’s southern division. Hailing from Wingate University, Karr has already racked up one win and three saves through the first nine games of the season.
Karr’s first win of the summer came last Thursday, June 7th at Covington. He only pitched four outs of late relief– three of which were strikeouts– but managed to sneak away with the win before fellow Turk Shawn O’Neill iced the game with a save of his own.
Two of Karr’s three saves also came in the last seven days. The first of the week came as he took the mound for the final outs of a 1-0 game in Staunton on June 6, and the second came three days later as he closed out a 6-5 decision from the eighth inning while visiting the Rockbridge Rapids.
Karr may be called upon for his fourth save opportunity during tomorrow night’s home game against Staunton. He currently leads the league in saves.
