W: Bug Cox (1-1)
L: Alex Cruz (0-2)
S: Andrew Barbarino (1)
New Market’s Bug Cox gave up just two hits through the first seven innings as New Market (2-8) stunned the Turks at home 3-2.
Cox was brilliant in his first win of the year, retiring seven and allowing only one run before faltering in the eighth inning. After allowing a walk and two singles to load the bases, Cox finally stepped aside for reliever Neight Hoffa. Harrisonburg left fielder David Perkins hit a sacrifice fly to bring the Turks within 1, but the inning was ended before the Turks could pull any closer, leaving two runners on base.
In the bottom of the ninth, Rebels closer Barbarino gave up one single before striking out two of the final three batters to end the game.
Alex Cruz took the loss for the Turks (9-4), who are now 4-3 at Veterans Memorial Park.
