Storms Stormed Across the Valley

Harrisonburg, VA – Friday night a storm came through the Shenandoah Valley and caused damage everywhere.  The Turks were hosting the Rockbridge Rapids at Veterans Memorial Park.  In the bottom of the fourth inning the JMU weather alarm went off notifying everyone to clear the park.  At first people stood around and thought they would wait and see what was coming and if the game would be resumed.  It didn’t take long for them to find out.  The winds picked up tremendously, lightning streaked across the sky and the rain came.  There was a dust storm on the field, banners were ripped from the fence, and a portion of the visitors bull pen fence was bent backwards.

The game was tied 4-4 in four innings which didn’t make a complete game.  The make up date is being worked out and will be announced shortly.

Due to the damage the storm caused last night, a number of ball parks are still out of power today resulting in several games being cancelled.  The Turks game at Waynesboro is cancelled and will be rescheduled.

We were thankful that everyone got home safely from the game without any further accidents.
