Haymarket Snaps Harrisonburg Home Streak

W: Chris Acker (1-1)
L: Mike Kraft (2-1)

Haymarket’s Chris Acker spent nine full innings on the mound leading Haymarket to a 5-2 victory over the Turks.

Harrisonburg (17-9) entered the contest without a home loss in 11 days, but Acker’s complete game effort halted the streak. He struck out six and walked only one player. Ackers pitched opposite of Mike Kraft, who was tagged with five runs before being relieved in the fifth inning. Alex Cruz was inserted on the mound and pitched scoreless ball the rest of the way.

Haymarket (12-15) was not intimidated in Veterans Memorial Park, matching what would be Harrisonburg’s entire offensive ouput (2 runs) in the top of the first inning. Harrisonburg would eventually tie the game in the bottom of the fourth when left fielder David Perkins stole home on a throwout at second, but the Senators tacked on three more right away to send Kraft to the dugout and put the game on ice.

Neither team scored after the fifth inning.

Catcher Larry Balkwill finished 3/4 with an RBI for the Sen’s. Perkins finished 2/4 and scored both runs for the Turks.
