For the second straight week the Turks Player of the Week honor goes to a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, this time to Charles Sheffield.
Sheffield’s bat helped the Turks to a 3-1 record this week. The upcoming sophomore had 7 hits in 16 at-bats to hit .438 the last four games. The solid numbers bring Sheffield’s season batting average to .273 with a slugging percentage of .517. Sheffield’s most impressive numbers came versus New Market when he went 3-5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI plated in the 10-2 victory Thursday night. The only loss of the week at Covington still saw production from Sheffield as he hit his second homerun of the season.
In addition to offensive prowess, Sheffield has shown diversity in the field, shifting positions this week from right-field, to first base to third. While some players may find rust in transition from positions, Sheffield has 22 putouts, 7 assists, and 0 errors in the field. The versatility from the field and powerful numbers from the plate, Sheffield has earned Turks Player of the Week.
