W: Dillon Ortman (7-2)
L: Stu Jones (2-1)
The Turks scored early and often to take game 2 of the Lineweaver Cup championship series. They will take a 2-0 series lead into Winchester Friday night.
Harrisonburg ace Dillon Ortman took the mound once again in another strong outing. Ortman allowed two solo shots in the first three innings before settling in and pitching scoreless baseball from the fourth all the way through the eighth. He finished the night with five hits, one walk, and four strikeouts in eight full innings pitched, bringing his total time on the mound over the last four games to 32 2/3 innings.
This is Ortman’s 7th win of season, making him the record-holder for most wins on the season.
Chris Pike pitched the final inning, recording three strikeouts to end the game.
At the plate, Harrisonburg once again was the beneficiary of strong performances by center fielder Ryan Lee and third baseman Jake Roberts. Lee grounded into a double play with no outs in the bottom of the first, but still managed to bring home leadoff man Ryan Brown from third. It was Lee again whose base hit into right field brought home shortstop RJ Perucki, which would end up being the winning run.
Lee finished 3 of 5 with 3 RBI; Roberts finished 2 of 4.
Harrisonburg can sweep the Royals and clinch the VBL title with a win Friday night in Winchester. Game time is 7:00.
Should the Turks fail to sweep, game 4 will be in Harrisonburg Saturday night.
