Harrisonburg failed to score a run in the final eight innings of Friday night’s game as the Winchester Royals won their first championship series game.
Winchester went deep all night, nabbing three homers, ten total hits, and nine runs off Harrisonburg starter Alex Cruz before he was pulled in the second inning. Jake Roberts pitched relief through the fourth, walking four and allowing an additional run. Ryan Haas made his second mound apperance in this championship series, pitching the final four innings and allowing Winchester’s final three runs.
Turks pitchers combined for four strikeouts.
The Royals got great at bats from first baseman Bradley Picha (3/5, 2 RBI, 1 BB) and right fielder Logan Moon (3/5, 1 RBI). Picha, DH Joseph Odom, second baseman Justin Fox, and center fielder Ethan Harris all hit home runs.
For Fox, it’s his second consecutive game with a homer. He also blasted one deep in Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg on Thursday night.
Winchester’s James Baune earned the win after allowing just one first inning run. He pitched a complete game with four hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.
Turks speedster Ryan Brown accounted for the only run when he made it from first to home plate after two infield groundouts by his teammates in the top of the first.
Game 4 will be played Saturday night in Harrisonburg. The Turks will still raise the Jim Lineweaver Championship Cup with a win.
