Winthrop University is sending a pair of Eagles to play in Harrisonburg this summer.
Sophomore Jace Whitley, a 6′ 3″ 175 pound third baseman is currently posting a .250 batting average in 68 at bats. Whitley has had 17 hits, one double, one home run, 7 walks, drove in 7 RBIs and scored 7 runs. As a freshman saw action in 32 games, hit .182 with 8 hits in 44 at bats and one RBI. He had a .294 on base percentage. In high school Whitley was an All Conference and All County selection as a junior and senior. He also received the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. He hit .490 with five home runs and 41 RBI as a high school senior.
Teammate, Sam Kmiec is a 6-0 foot 210 pound left-handed pitcher from Middletown, Delaware. Kmiec is a red-shirt freshman making his presence felt this year on the mound for the Eagles. Kmiec currently has posted a 3.15 ERA in 36.2 innings of work. He has given up 31 hits, 15 runs and 12 earn runs and only 3 walks. The lefty has fanned 29 batters. He has a 1-3 win loss record and 1 save.
