Meet the Team: Wingate

Turks manager Bob Wease’s decision to bring on Jeff Gregory as an assistant coach in 2005 has turned out to be a beneficial one for the summer circuit. The last three years, six Bulldogs have joined Turks Nation, all in prominent roles. From outfield masher Dodson McPherson wearing out the right field wall in 2011, standout first baseman Brian Yeung on the 2012 championship team, to two time Turks Brett Morgan and Thomas Spitz , Wingate has been a a steady stream of impact talent for Harrisonburg. In addition to Spitz and Morgan, RHP Tyler Brown will be making his way to the Valley this summer.

Tyler Brown

          Tyler Brown, a sophomore, from Suffolk, Virginia is a right handed pitcher for Wingate. The 5’10, 150 lb right handed pitcher has appeared in 9 games in relief with an ERA of 3.68, 14 strikeouts, and a save for the 2014 season.

Brett Morgan

          Brett Morgan is a right-handed pitcher from Clemmons, North Carolina. Morgan, a 6’1 185 lb junior, has appeared in 6 games and started 1 game in 2014 for Wingate. He has a 1.69 ERA and 7 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched. In the summer of 2013, Morgan  recorded an ERA of 3.17, with just over 1 K/IP at 22 strikouts in 22.2 innings pitched over 14 games, all in relief.

Thomas Spitz

          Thomas Spitz, a 6’1 180 lb junior, is an outfielder for the Wingate Bulldogs. Spitz is a West Chester, Pennsylvania native . Spitz leads Wingate in batting average (.347), On-base Percentage (.424), and stolen bases (7). In 2013 for the Turks, Spitz finished with 21 stolen bases (4th in VBL) and 4 3b (1rst in VBL) to go along with a .279 batting average.
