Joey Roach Named Week Four Turks Player of the Week
Entering this past week, Joey Roach (Georgia State) was hitting .167 with only five hits. He quickly changed those numbers with a hot bat that helped continue to lead the hot Turks who are now winners of 12-of-their-last-14.
In five games this week, Roach collected six hits over 20 at-bats. Two of the hits were home runs (Turks lead the league in team home runs) and two were doubles which resulted in an astonishing .700 slugging percentage for the week. To go with those numbers, Roach led the team in RBI for the week with seven. Not a typical quick player, either, Roach had one stolen base to supplement the rest of his offensive production.
The Turks have used four different catchers this year so it was great to get consistent production at a position that has had a revolving door. Roach just puts another name on the list of Georgia State Panthers who are helping the Turks tremendously (Matt Rose and Garrett Ford) in 2014.
With his successful week, Roach has upped his season batting average to .204 and is looking to be a mainstay behind the plate for the Turks as the All-Star Break approaches.
