Turks’ Onda All-Valley
Daily News Record
HARRISONBURG – The Valley Baseball League regular-season champion Harrisonburg Turks had only one first-team All VBL selection – Texas San Antonio relief pitcher Logan Onda – in balloting announced Monday.
Staunton first baseman Gunner McNeill of Florida International was named league MVP, while Front Royal’s Jake Harper – a Division II St. Joseph’s College (Ind.) left-hander – took Pitcher of the Year honors.
Georgia State third baseman Matt Rose, UNC-Greensboro outfielder Eric Kalbfleisch and Georgia Tech second baseman Thomas Smith received second-team honors for the Turks. Front Royal’s seven overall selections, six of which came on the first team, led the VBL.
Longtime Harrisonburg Manager Bob Wease also confirmed Monday that he plans to continue coaching the Turks next season. “At least another 30 years,” the 70-year old Wease joked when asked about how long he will stay at the helm of the team. “No, as long as my health holds out and I’m able to do the things I can do. I enjoy it, I really do.”
