Meet the 2015 UTSA Road Runners
The Turks have four players from the University of Texas San Antonio; Kevin Markham, Tyler Straub, Jesse Baker, and Patrick Herbelin.
Kevin Markham is the starting catcher for the University of Texas at San Antonio. Markham is a native of Texas and is currently a junior at UTSA. UTSA had a playoff berth last year with much assistance from Markham, who was a starter for the second year in a row. In his sophomore season, Markham batted .371 with 7 doubles, 4 triples, and 3 homers. Added to those numbers, he also finished second on the team in steals with 17; fairly impressive for a catcher. So far this season, Markham is posting an average of .330 with 31 hits, 6 doubles, 1 home run and 14 RBI’s.
Tyler Straub is an infielder for the University of Texas at San Antonio. In his freshman campaign, Straub appeared in 47 games, registering 45 hits and maintaining a batting average of .283 In his sophomore year, Straub scored 31 runs while batting in another 18 along with 14 stolen bases. So far this season Straub is leading the Road Runners batting .354 in 23 games and 99 at bats with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 16 RBI’s.
Jesse Baker is a utility player for the University of Texas San Antonio. A Texas native like his teammate Kevin Markham, Baker played in all of UTSA’s games his freshman year, which included 57 starts between second base and the outfield. During that season, Baker hit .270 with 12 doubles, 4 home runs, 34 RBI’s and an impressive 13 multi-hit games. So far this season, Baker is batting .346 in 81 at bats with 28 hits, 10 doubles, 5 home runs and 19 RBI’s.
Patrick Herbelin is a right handed pitcher for the University of Texas San Antonio. Herbelin made 24 appearances out of the pen his sophomore year Herbelin made 24 appearances out of the pen his sophomore year notching 4 saves, posted a 3.82 ERA. So far this season Herbelin is 2-2 with 2 saves and a 6.19 ERA in 17.0 innings of work.
