Shane Billings and James Ziemba: Week Six Co-Turks POW

Shane Billings - WingateThe Turks Player of the Week was earned by two players as center-fielder Shane Billings and LHP James Ziemba (Duke) were honored. For Billings, this is his third week in a row getting the award. Shane hit .500 in 18 at-bats with a double, an RBI, six runs scored and three stolen bases this week. Billings has the highest batting average in the Valley League at .423.

James Ziemba (Duke)Turks LHP James Ziemba also grabs the award this week. Ziemba who had been pitching mostly out of the bullpen was asked to make a couple of starts because of other Turks pitchers departures from the rotation and he has been great. Ziemba’s success culminated to the start he made this week when he threw a complete game allowing only four hits, two earned runs while striking out eight batters. Ziemba who struggled so mightily last year has become one of the Turks most consistent starters this season. For the season Ziemba’s numbers look like this; eight appearances, four starts, a 3-1 record, 27.2 innings pitched, 20 hits allowed, 10 walks allowed and 20 strikeouts with a 2.60 ERA for the season.

Jesse Baker (Texas San Antonio)  Baker hit .429 in 14 at-bats with a double, tripke, three runs batted in and four runs scored.

Tyler Straub (Texas San Antonio) Straub hit .389 in 18 at-bats with two doubles, two RBI, a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
