Ty Comer from Ferrum College will become a Turk this summer. Comer is a compact 5’11, 205 pounds utility infielder and has shown the ability to defend multiple positions well, fielding .982 on the year. Comer is a local Page County High School product, who just completed his third season at Ferrum College. The Panthers compete in the USA South Athletic Conference, Division III. Ferrum plays solid baseball with former MLB closer Billy Wagner and former Turk LHP, and 9-year pro, Jimmy Hamilton as all-time greats there.
Comer hit consistently, hovering right at or above .300 all year, with 49 hits, 38 RBI’s and two homers. Contact is Comers game, as he struck out just once every eight plate appearances. He was recently recognized as All-Conference Honorable Mention. One particularly notable game this year was against Urbana College, when Comer went three-for-four, homered and knocked in six runs.
Ty is from a solid baseball family. His grandfather Wayne was an outfielder with the Detroit Tigers and played in the 1968 World Series. He is not only bringing talent to the baseball diamond though, because he also been recognized for his academics. Talent and smarts bode well for Comer and the Turks.
Welcome home Ty!
