George Mason first baseman Greg Popatak Jr. will suit up for the Turks this summer. The Sharpsville, PA native just completed his freshman season for the Patriots. Greg batted .264, 2 HR and 15 RBI in 42 starts. While his strikeout rate was high, so was his walk rate, leading to a respectable .365 on-base percentage. Popatak is a powerfully built 6′ 1″, 215 lb lefty batter and throws right handed.
Before George Mason, Greg was one of the top athletes in the Keystone State over the past several years, garnering numerous awards in baseball, football and basketball at Sharpsville HS. He was also captain of the baseball team twice and football once. Academically, Popatak was also a 4-year honor roll member.
As Popatak develops his game at Mason, these summer at-bats will be valuable as well. Welcome to the ball club Greg.
