Charlottesville, VA – The Turks dropped a back and forth game in Charlottesville on Wednesday night. Harrisonburg held the lead four separate times before a TomSox rally in ninth gave them their first lead and the 6-5 win.
Chris Farish (Wake Forest) Started for the Turk throwing four innings allowing 2 runs, both unearned. With the game tied at 2-2, he was relieved by Cade Bullinger (Texas-San Antonio). In 2 2/3rd innings Bullinger struggled with wildness, walking two and throwing three wild pitches that led to single runs by Charlottesville in the 6th and 7th innings that ties the game again at 4-4.
In the eight, Harrisonburg grabbed the lead back again on two hits and an error. Neither team played well with a total of 9 errors, 13 walks and 21 runners left on base. Jacob Ramos (Shorter) pitched a scoreless inning heading to the ninth. Charlottesville rallied against Grant Stewart (Florida State) on a walk, 2 wild pitches and an error. Brandon Johnson (Richmond) delivered the game-winning run on a single.
Layne Looney (Richmond) pitched the final three innings for Charlottesville, allowing one run and striking out seven. He was the winning pitcher. improving to 1-1.
Offensively Ty Andrus (Wingate), Joe Lytle (Oklahoma City), Luke Nussman (Shenandoah) and Tevin Mitchell (Cal-Santa Barbara) each had two hits for Harrisonburg.
Harrisonburg falls to 13-17. Charlottesville improves to 21-6 and has opened up a 5.5 game lead in the Southern Division.
The Turks will try and snap their 3-game losing streak at home tonight hosting the Covington Lumberjacks. Game time is 7:30 at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Harrisonburg.
