EFSC Titan Paul Costillo signs with the Turks

In 1992 a young right-hand pitcher from Florida State University came to Harrisonburg and spent the summer pitching for the Turks. The following year Jeff Tam was then selected by the New York Mets in the 1993 MLB Draft. Tam spent his six year career in the major leagues with the Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays. He finished his career with a 7-14 record with a 3.91 ERA and seven saves in 251 relief appearances.
In 2012 Tam was hired by Eastern Florida State College as head coach of it’s baseball team and director of its new intramural athletics program. The previous years he had worked under EFSC Head Coach Ernie Rosseau as the pitching coach and then interim head coach after Rosseau retired.

Fast forward to 2018 and Head Coach Jeff Tam reconnects with the Turks to send one of his EFSC Titans to play for Coach Bob Wease. Sophomore, 6’2″ 190 pound outfielder, Paul Castillo, from Miami, FL will follow his coach’s summer travel and play in Harrisonburg. A lot has changed since 1992 when Tam played. Castillo will play at the new James Madison University Veterans Memorial Park.

So far this spring for the Titans, Castillo has posted a .368 ERA in 8 games with a double, a triple, and a RBI, 4 runs and 7 hits. .400 on base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage.

The Turks welcome Paul Castillo to Harrisonburg for an exciting summer of Valley League Baseball.
