Proud to Ink a Local to the 2018 Turks

The Turks have signed Virginia Tech freshman, Cam Irvine, from Penn Laird, VA. The 6″2″ 185 pound infielder graduated from  Spotswood High School. He earned varsity letters all four years, and was named three times to the All-Valley District team.  Irvine was also an All-Conference 29 team member and an all-area player at shortstop, including First Team honors as a junior and senior, as well as a two-time All-Region shortstop. As a senior he batted .377 with 29 hits, 18 RBI and 15 stolen bases.

Irvine has started in 5 of 8 games this season for the Hokies. He’s hitting .286 in 21 at bats, scoring 3 runs with 6 hits, 1 double and 1 RBI and 4 walks. He has a .333% slugging and a .400% on base percentage.

Cam comes from baseball roots. His father, Daryl Irvine, played baseball at Ferrum College and was drafted three times. The last time was in the first round of the 1985 MLB by the Boston Red Sox. He played professionally for nine years and pitched in 41 games for the Red Sox over the 1990-92 seasons.

We hope Cam feels at home at JMU Veterans Memorial Park and that all of his family and friends come out to support him this summer as he takes the field in a Turks uniform.
