UNCG Coach Jarrett Sends Spartans to Harrisonburg

UNC Greensboro is another school that Coach Wease has a strong relationship with. Head Coach Link Jarrett played for the Turks in 1992 and the two coaches have maintained a good friendship over all of these years. Coach Jarrett has been a constant source of sending talented and first class young players to the Turks each summer. This season isn’t any different.

We want to welcome back junior Josh Madole to the Turks! Josh a 6’1” 200 pound, left handed, first baseman is from Hampstead, NC. He is a Pre-Kinesiology major. During the 2018 season Josh played in all 54 games  for the Spartans making 53 starts at first base, he had a .262 batting average with 11 extra-base hits. Josh drove in 21 runs, scored 35 times and even reached base in 20-straight games! Josh earned a .989 fielding percentage at first base. Due to an injury after only a couple of games in Harrisonburg, Josh only had 9 at-bats  for the Turks. He had a .222 average with 2 runs, 5 walks and a double. We are excited to have Josh returning to our squad for the 2019 Turks season and bringing three other Spartan teammates with him; Zach Budzik, Alex Hoppe, and Austin Koehn.

Joining Madole is 5’9” 160 pound, right handed sophomore short stop Zach Budzik. The sophomore finance major is from Stallings, NC.  Before college Zach was named to the First Team All-Southern Carolina Conference, earned the 2018 Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League High School Leadership Award, and was named on the Perfect Game Preseason All-American Atlantic Region. His senior season at Sun Valley High School he batted .353 with five doubles, eight RBIs and six stolen bases! We are excited for Zach to join our team!

Two Spartan right-hand pitchers are joining the Turks pitching staff. Alex Hoppe, a 6’1” 175 pound junior from Clinton, Iowa.  At Unity Christian High School Alex tossed 34.1 innings and struck out 74 batters, and only gave up 14 hits. He ended his senior season with a 2.45 ERA! Alex made his college debut against Oakland throwing 1 inning and had a strikeout, and he threw a shutout inning against Lafayette. Alex is a pre-Kinesiology major.

Austin Koehn, a 6’2” 180 pound sophomore Austin Koehn from Bel Air, MD. This RHP is going to be a great addition to the staff. Two summers ago Austin competed with the Baltimore Redbirds and pitched 23.0 innings with a 0.91 ERA scattering 10 hits with 27 strikeouts, last summer he competed with the Diamond Pros Collegiate Team and tossed 11.1 innings, having 9 SO and a 3.18 ERA. We are excited to have this Maryland native stay in VA and compete with us this summer!
