Harrisonburg, Va- With a playoff spot on the line for the Turks, last night’s game against the Waynesboro Generals was a big one. Ultimately, the Turks struggled to get a timely hit and fell to the Generals 8-3.

Will Brain, of Eastern Kentucky, started on the mound for the Turks and struck out six batters in his five innings pitched. Alex Lozado, of Gulf Coast CC, relieved Brian and struck out two batters in his three innings. Caston Peter, of the University of Texas, finished the game for the Turks and struck out two batters in the ninth inning.

The game started off slow as no runs were scored until the third inning. In the top of the third, the Generals scored three runs off four hits. The Turks came out ready to battle in the bottom of the third with catcher Matthew Larson getting on base to start off the inning. Shortstop Nick Zona bunts to advance Larson and get on first base, and right fielder Tom Caufield follows with a sac-bunt. Second baseman McCann Mellett gets a free pass to make the bases loaded for first baseman Josh Madole. Madole knocks out a single to right field to bring in Larson and Zona. Left fielder Jed Bryant walks to make the bases loaded a second time, but the Turks couldn’t capitalize on these three baserunners.

The Generals see more action in the top of the fourth as they add two runs and two hits to their lead making the score 5-2. The next four and a half innings remain scoreless, with the Turks trailing by three runs.

The Generals increase their lead by three runs in the top of the ninth to give them a comfortable, six run advantage over the Turks who try to make the most of their last half inning. Caufield hits a double to right field, followed by a single from Mellett. Madole hits a single to centerfield which brings in Caufield and earns Madole is third RBI of the game, bringing in all three runs.
