Troy Trojan Joins the Turks

Monday, February 17, 2020

Baseball is a small world and longtime friendships are made through summer baseball. The Turks have had a special tie to the Troy baseball program since Head Coach Mark Smartt coached the Turks in 1994. This summer he’s sending another Trojan to Harrisonburg.

William Sullivan will play first base for the 2020 Turks. The left-hand freshman Trojan stands 6-4 and is 204 pounds and hails from Orlando, FL. As a senior at Dr. Phillips High School he batted .541 with 11 home runs and 13 doubles. Sullivan received a player of the week honor and was named first team All Prep Baseball Report. He tied the school’s home run record (11) and single season RBI record (36), while holding the single season record for doubles (13) and batting average (.541). Sullivan intends on majoring in exercise science – pre-health profession.

Sullivan had an outstanding opening weekend hitting .615 in 13 at bats with 6 runs, 8 hits, 5 doubles and 8 RBI. We look forward to an exciting summer of Turks baseball with William this summer.

Coach Smartt has sent a number of his Trojan players to Harrisonburg over the years. One of the most recognized is Clint Robinson.

Clint Robinson (Troy 2004-2007) played first base for the Turks in 2005 and 2006. He was drafted in 2007, in the 25th round by the Kansas City Royals. Robinson had a ten year career playing in parts of four seasons in the big leagues with the Royals, Dodgers and Nationals, hitting .257 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 243 games. He played on nine minor league teams hitting .295 with 159 home runs and 661 RBI in 1,053 games. He received a number of accolades; MiLB Organization All Star for Kansas City (AL) in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Mid Season All Star in 2010 NW Arkansas, TEX, 2011 – 2012 Omaha PCL. End Season All Star in 2007 Idaho Falls PIO, NW Arkansas, TEX and 2011 Omaha, PCL. He was the League MVP in 2007 with Idaho Falls, PIO.
