Valley League Playoff Scenarios

7/24/2006 – Valley Baseball League News

Valley League Baseball News The 2006 Valley League regular season is winding down and the playoffs are just around the corner. Harrisonburg and Waynesboro are battling for the top seed in the Southern Division while three teams, Haymarket, Winchester, and Luray, are playing to figure out which team will occupy seeds two, three, and four in the Northern Division. Below is a summary of the playoff situation through the completion of games for Sunday, July 23. Southern Division Staunton will be #4 seed and start on road Covington will be #3 seed and start on road If Waynesboro and Harrisonburg tie, there will be a one-game playoff on Wednesday to determine the #1 seed with Harrisonburg as the home team by virtue of a better head-to-head record Northern Division New Market has clinched #1 seed and will have homefield throughout the playoffs Seeds 2, 3, and 4 are a little more complicated… Currently Luray is finished at 21-21 and Haymarket and Winchester are each 21-20 with one game to go on Tuesday. If both win, Winchester earns the #2 seed by virtue of a better head-to-head record and will host #3 Haymarket with Luray as #4. If Haymarket wins but Winchester loses, Haymarket is #2, Luray is #3 because of a better head-to-head record with Winchester, and Winchester is #4. If Winchester wins but Haymarket loses, Winchester is #2, Haymarket is #3 because of head-to-head vs. Luray, and Luray is #4. If both Haymarket and Winchester lose we have a three-way tie, in which case the tiebreaker is each team’s head-to-head record against the other two teams. Luray would be 9-7 (6-2 v Win, 3-5 v Hay), Haymarket would be 8-8 (5-3 v Lur, 3-5 v Win), and Winchester 7-9 (2-6 v Lur, 5-3 vs. Hay). So Luray would be #2, Haymarket #3, and Winchester #4.
