Luray Up To #3 In Summer 16 Rankings

With commanding leads atop their respective divisions, Luray (#3) and Waynesboro (#9) continue to ranking among the nation’s best summer teams…. The Valley Baseball League continues to have two teams in the Summer 16 rankings compiled by with the Luray Wranglers climbing up to #3 and the Waynesboro Generals sitting at #9. Luray has won six games in a row, which includes an exhibition win over the Vienna Senators of the Clark Griffith League, a team which entered the contest #1 in the nation. The Wranglers hold the best record in the Valley League at 28-10 and were the first team to clinch home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They hold a five-game lead over Fauquier in the VBL’s North Division. Waynesboro is 27-12 overall, which includes the best home record in the Valley League at 17-4. The Generals have clinched at least a tie for the South Division with a 4 ½ game lead over Staunton. Waynesboro has won seven of its last nine games, including a 1-0 10-inning win over Vienna. Luray and Waynesboro are slated to meet on the final day of the regular season on July 28 in a game that could decide the #1 seed in the playoffs, which will begin on July 29 barring any weather delay or tiebreaker games. Six teams – Luray, Waynesboro, Fauquier, Staunton, Winchester, and Covington – have already clinched playoff spots. No team has been eliminated yet with the other five battling for the final two spots. As of July 23, Harrisonburg and Haymarket would grab the final spots with Woodstock one game back, New Market two games back, and Front Royal three games back. Summer 16 Rankings (7/22/08)
