How Turks Fared in the All-Star Game

The South team defeated the North team 10-4 in the 2016 Valley Baseball League All-Star Game at Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday Night. Eight Turks made the South roster, here is how they played.

Shortstop Tripp Shelton (UNCG) was named the Most Valuable Player for the South team for his 3-for-3, two run performance. He scored the first run of the game in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from Harrisonburg teammate Jonathan Pryor. He scored again the in the top of the second on a double by Waynesboro’s Zach Sterry (Oakland University)

Third baseman Trevor Craport (Wake Forest) finished the game 1-for-2 with a single in the first inning.

Jonathan Pryor (Wake Forest) hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Tripp Shelton and ended the game 1-for-3 with an eighth-inning single and a walk.

Mason George (UTSA) hit an RBI single to right field in the top of the ninth inning to extend the South’s lead to 10-4. George finished the game 2-for-3 after entering the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jason Serchay (UTSA) and Greg Popatak (George Mason) combined to go 0-for-3 with one walk apiece. Before the game, Popatak won the Home Run Derby, defeating Sterry 3-2.   2016 Home Run Champ Greg Popatak

The lone Turks pitcher in the game tonight was Corey Childress (Troy) who closed out the game in the ninth inning, allowing one hit with a strikeout and a hit batter.

Donnie Sellers (Wake Forest) did not participate due to an injury.

The Turks are back in action on Tuesday July 12 at the Waynesboro Generals (19-9).
