Turks Get the Victory in Extra Innings

Staunton, VA- The Braves and the Turks once again went to extra innings, but this time it was Harrisonburg who ended up victorious. In a close contest, the Turks won 5-4 going to ten innings.

In the top of the first inning, the Turks scored two runs to take an early lead. Josh Madole hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Tom Caufield. McCann Mellett then scored off a single from Aaron Levy.

The Braves responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Logan Worley hit a single scoring Ryan McCarty.

The Turks scored again in the top of the second inning. Tom Caufield hit an RBI single and Immanuel Wilder crossed home plate.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Turks made a pitching substitution. Alex Hoppe came in for Jacob Edwards who started the game.

Edwards pitched in three innings getting a 2.87 ERA. He allowed two hits and one run. Edwards walked three batters and got two strikeouts.

Nick Zona then subbed in for Alex Hoppe in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hoppe received a 1.69 ERA and pitched in two innings. Hoppe only allowed one hit, walked one batter and threw three strikeouts.

In the top of the eighth inning, RJ Schreck scored after stealing third base and then crossing home plate.

Staunton scored three runs in the bottom of the eight. After a Turks’ error, Andrew Czech scored for the Braves. Casey Haire then singled and Jacob Selden scored. Chet Moore then grounded out and Callaway Sigler scored to tie the game at 4-4.

The bottom of the eight also saw the Turks make another pitching substation. Mason Powell subbed in for Nick Zona. Zona pitched in two and a third innings allowing three hits, three runs and one earned run. He walked three batters, threw two strikeouts and posted a 4.15 ERA.

In the top of the tenth inning, Aaron Levy blasted a home run scoring the winning run for the Turks.

Caston Peter then came in for Mason Powell in the bottom of the tenth. Powell was the winning pitcher and pitched in two innings. He walked four batters and allowed one hit.
