Covington, VA – Pitcher Ben Wade (Southern Mississippi) struck out seven batters and surrendered one run on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings to lead Covington to a 3-2 win over Harrisonburg in a Valley League baseball game Friday. The host Lumberjacks improved to 19-11; the Turks fell to 14-12. The Lumberjakcs took a three game lead on the Turks in the VBL’s Southern Division. Covington shortstop Ryne Jernigan (Florida State) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Third baseman Ryan Taylor (West Virginia State) and catcher Chad Mercado (Bethune-Cookman) each went 1-for-3 with RBIs. Right fielder Bo Davis (Southern Mississippi) went 2-for-4 and threw out two Turks at home plate. Harrisonburg second baseman Josh Richardson (Indiana) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Pinch hitter Matt Denker (Eastern Arizona) drove home a run with a sacrifice fly.
