6/06/2006 – Turks Tidbits
Written By Matt Kerr, Broadcasting Intern Spotswood High School graduate Harrisonburg, VA– For the Harrisonburg Turks, the season has not gone as they had envisioned. After Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss at the hands of the Waynesboro Generals, the Turks remain the only winless team in the Valley Baseball League at 0-4. After an early Matt Denker home run to begin scoring, the Generals battled back with two runs of their own in the second. The game remained tight up until the seventh, when Waynesboro broke the 2-2 tie with two runs. Harrisonburg was unable to respond, and dropped their fourth straight. Although Harrisonburg has started 0-4, much can be blamed on the short roster. With many of the Turks still playing in their regional tournaments, Coach Bob Wease has been limited on his options. More players are expected in at the end of the week though, making Harrisonburg’s chances of a turnaround all that much greater. The Turks next home game is Friday night against Woodstock at Veterans Memorial Stadium 7:30 p.m. It’s also Special Olympic Night. All Special Olympians and their families are admitted FREE. The Bridgewater Challengers will be our special Field of Dream Team guests.
