Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., June 22, 2007 – Pitcher Ashur Tolliver (Sherwood, Arkhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Arkansas-Little Rock) was on fire tonight for the Turks giving them their 12th win of the season, pitching eight complete innings giving up only one run on three hits while striking out 13. Harrisonburg hit the scoreboard first, scoring one run right off the bat in the bottom of the first, and two more again in the bottom of the second. Five innings would go by before either team would score again. Finally, in the top of the eighth Luray would threaten putting two men on base. Right fielder Adan Severino (Hialeah, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Broward C.C.) started things off first for the Wranglers by drawing a walk off of Tolliver. Shortstop Tyler Kuhn (Louisville, Kyhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/West Virginia) then hit a triple into deep center field scoring Severino to make the score 3-1. Second baseman Brett Rossi (Ringoes, N.Jhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Barry) however, would strikeout to end any threat against the Turks. The Turks would in turn tack on another three runs in the bottom of the eighth to widen the gap. Center fielder Alex Lyons (Orem, Utah/Taft) started things off for the Turks by reaching on a fielding error by Wranglers’ second baseman Rossi. Travis Peep (Chandler, Arizhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Arizona) would then double into center field allowing Lyons to score. Left fielder B.J. Wheeler (Abilene, Texas/Clarendon) would come to the plate next singling up the middle, advancing Peep to third. Wheeler would steal second and first baseman David Dennis (El Cajon, Califhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Oklahoma City) would be intentionally walked to load the bases. Ryan Wood (Woodbridge, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/East Carolina) singled through the left side of the field to score Peep, and advance Dennis to second and Wheeler to third. Designated hitter Andrew Franco (Destin, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Appalachian State) would fly out to center field, and Wheeler would score on the play. The Turks will hit the road tomorrow looking for another win away from home as they face the Haymarket Senators at 7:30.
