Turks Continue Losing Streak

Turks Fall to Woodstock, 4-2 Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., July 17, 2007 – Tonight Harrisonburg extended their losing streak to three games as they fell to Woodstock by a score of 4-2. Pitcher Jim Kennedy (Levittown, Pahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Ryder) took to the mound for the Turks tonight pitching six complete innings giving up seven hits and four runs. River Bandits’ shortstop Shayne Moody (Midland, Texas/Charlotte) claimed two of those hits, as did first baseman Grant Escue (Washington, Illhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Stanford) and right fielder Yunior Tabares (Tampa, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Saint Leo). Left fielder Matt Mansilla (Fort Lauderdale, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Charleston) also had a hit on the night for the River Bandits. Tabares knocked in the first run of the night in the top of the second inning with a double into right center. He would knock in another run during the top of the fourth. Escue and Mansilla would also knock in a run each, Escue in the top of the fourth with a double into right field and Mansilla in the top of the fifth with a double down the right field line. After scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth the Turks threatened in the bottom of the ninth. Designated hitter Andrew Franco (Destin, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Appalachian State) drew a lead off walk for the Turks, left fielder B.J. Wheeler (Abilene, Texas/Clarendon) was then hit by a pitch, and catcher Mike Pericht (Orland Park, Illhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Saint Joseph) then followed with another walk to load the bases. Center fielder Sammy Lee (Ninnekah, Oklahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Redlands CC) grounded out to the River Bandits’ shortstop allowing Franco to score. Turks’ second baseman Travis Peep (Chandler, Arizhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Arizona) followed by loading the bases once again after getting hit by a pitch. After a change in Woodstock’s pitching, Turks’ shortstop Ryan Wood (Woodbridge, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/East Carolina) came to the plate only to groundout into a 123 double play to end the game allowing the Turks to fall back to a 22-11 record. The Turks will look to end their losing streak tonight as they play host to the Covington Lumberjacks at 7:30.
