Haymarket, Va., – Valley Baseball League President Dave Biery and Vice President Todd Thompson have announced the transfer of ownership of the Haymarket Senators franchise to The Rivalry Group LLC from Haymarket VBL, Inc. The final papers were signed Thursday evening. The Valley League directors approved the transfer of ownership to Rivalry Group, which consists of Scott and Jayme Newell and Bernie and Robin Schaffler. The league previously assumed operating control of the franchise in June from primary owner Mark Keagle due to financial considerations. “The Newell and Schaffler families have demonstrated during the interim period that they have an excellent handle on the team’s operations, and they have done a terrific job of recruiting volunteers and keeping things going,” commented Biery on the organization’s new owners. “They’ve proven to us that they are very interested in the Valley Baseball League and the Haymarket Senators. We feel confident that they will do an excellent job operating the team for the rest of 2007 and into the future.” Keagle owned the Senators for the last one and a half seasons beginning in 2006. The organization entered the league in 2004 as the Loudoun Rangers before moving to its current home in Haymarket for the 2005 season.
