7/29/2007 – Valley League Baseball News
The regular season in the Valley Baseball League will last one extra day due to a few rainouts, but with just two games remaining, the playoff picture is becoming a little more clear. Five teams know their seeds through the conclusion of Sunday’s games. With Waynesboro’s 2-0 win at New Market, the Generals clinched the top seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Despite a 3-1 setback at Covington, the Harrisonburg Turks will be the #2 seed in the tournament and will have home field through the quarterfinals and semifinals of the VBL playoffs. Luray will have to make up Sunday’s rained out contest against Front Royal, but the Wranglers already know they will be the #3 seed when the playoffs begin. The four versus five game was set before Sunday night, but which team was home was decided when Winchester defeated Fauquier 10-4. So the #4 Royals will host the #5 Braves in the only head-to-head series that is set so far. Covington will either be the #6 or #7 seed, thanks to the victory over the Turks. A Front Royal win over Luray puts the Cardinals in sixth place thanks to a 3-1 head-to-head record against the Lumberjacks. A Front Royal loss to the Wranglers gives the #6 seed to the Jacks. A Front Royal loss coupled with a Woodstock win over Haymarket would create a tie for seventh place. The two teams split the four-game regular-season series so the tiebreaker would come down to a coin flip. A Front Royal win or a Woodstock loss cements Woodstock as the #8 seed.
