Valley Baseball League News Room WINCHESTER RANKED 13TH IN FIRST SUMMER 16 RANKING With the best record in the Valley League at 11-4, the Winchester Royals debuted at #13 in the first edition of PGCrosschecker.com’s summer 16 ranking of the top summer collegiate teams in the nation. The Royals have won five in a row and seven of eight after a modest 4-3 start to the season. First baseman Tyler Townsend (Florida International) and third baseman Mickey Wiswall (Boston College) have led the offense. Townsend is hitting .408 with 12 runs scored, two doubles, four homers, 14 RBIs, and 10 walks. Wiswall is hitting at a .452 clip with three doubles, a triple, three homers, and 15 RBIs. Both rank among the top five in the league in average, slugging, on-base percentage, and RBIs. Andrew White (Charleston Southern) has been the ace of the staff thus far at 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA. He has struck out 29 with just four walks and a .167 opponent average in 24 2/3 innings. Justin Collop (Toledo) has been just as dominant with a 2-0 record and 2.20 ERA. He has struck out 27 in 28 2/3 innings and opponents are hitting .172. Tyler Thornburg (Charleston Southern) is 1-0 with five saves and a 2.77 ERA. PGCrosschecker will release its list of the top 16 summer teams each week during the season. Waynesboro, the 2007 VBL champion, finished last year’s rankings in sixth.
