06/26/2008 – Turks Tidbits
Written by Andy May, Broadcasting Intern Bridgewater College Harrisonburg- The Luray Wranglers came to Harrisonburg riding a four game winning streak and beat the Turks 4-0 with both teams striking out a combined 27 times. It seemed as though the Wranglers were going to pile some runs on after Adam McClain (Memphis) scored in the first inning to put Luray up 1-0. McClain went 2 for 4 with two doubles and one run, but the pitchers ruled the field. After the Wranglers first inning run, a pitching duel ensued and both teams seemed to catch the strikeout bug. Garrett Parker (Oklahoma City) pitched five innings striking out seven batters while picking up the loss for the Turks. The winning pitcher, Luray’s Alex Wimmers (Ohio State) pitched five innings also striking out seven. Wimmers earned his second win of the season for the Wranglers while Eric Hinkle (Long Island) pitched the final four innings striking out seven and allowing no hits or runs. Hinkle earned his second save of the season. In the top of the sixth inning Austin Markel (WVU) belted a two run home run. Markel was 1-4 on the night, but picked an opportune time to get his only hit. Jeff Jefferson (Liberty) led the Wranglers going 3 for 4 with two singles, a double, an RBI, and one run. The Turks were led by Michael Precise (Troy) who was 2 for 4 with two singles and Mark Brooks (Bethune-Cookman) going 1-4. The Harrisonburg Turks (7-13) travel to Waynesboro to take on the first place Generals (13-6) while the Luray Wranglers (14-6) host the Winchester Royals (12-8).
