04/21/1009 – Turks Tidbits
Written by Emily Sousa James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg announces that Coaches Zak Kinnison and Steve Sanchez will join returning Head Coach Bob Wease to guide Turks for the 2009 season. Coach Kinnison will handle the Turks pitchers while Coach Sanchez will serve as the Infield Coach.
Kinnison is a resident of Edmond, Oklahoma. He currently serves as the graduate assistant pitching coach at national NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma City University. His first coaching job was last summer with the Ozark Generals out of the MINK summer league program where he helped guide the team to a 27-20 record and a 4th place finish in the NBC World Series. Kinnison played his college ball at Northeastern Oklahoma Junior College where he helped the team reach an 8th place finish in the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. He then went to Southern Arkansas University before transferring and finishing his playing career at the University of Central Oklahoma. He received his degree from the University of Central Oklahoma with a bachelor’s in Physical Education/Health.

Sanchez played Varsity high school baseball for both Torrey Pines High School and Santa Fe Christian High School. Sanchez went on to play for the San Diego Mesa College Varsity baseball team where he was named onto the Coastal Conference All League Baseball Team. He then went on to play at California Baptist University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in physical education. After graduation Sanchez went on to a number of different coaching positions. In 2003 he became the varsity assistant baseball coach at Santa Fe Christian High School, followed by an assistant baseball coach position at his Alma matta California Baptist University. Sanchez is currently the assistant baseball coach at San Diego Mesa College. He also has a great deal of experience working baseball camps.
