06/11/2009 – Turks Tidbits
Written by Matt Vanover James Madison University Intern Turks welcome the United Way and the BBC Turks fans, come on out this Saturday night and celebrate baseball the way it should be played. The Turks will take the field against the Winchester Royals at 5 p.m. The Turks will take the field look for back to back wins, but also promoting a larger cause. Saturday night will be United Way Recognition night. Tomorrow will be a way for United Way and the Turks to say thank to all of volunteers that work for a cause. The United Way puts emphasis on achieving youth’s potential, financial stability, and the health of America. In addition to the United Way Recognition, Mauck field will play host to the British Broadcasting Company (BBC). A group from the BBC will travel from Winchester with the Winchester Royals to watch the game in Harrisonburg. The BBC is a regular radio show in Britain that has come to America to make a documentary called “Americana”. Interest in the Valley Baseball league is something that sparked their interest since many players live with “host” families. In Britain, things such as “host” families do not exist in this manner. Instances like these where envy from another country is given should make everyone feel proud to be an American. A reminder to fans that have not made it out to the games this year. All home games this season will be at 5 p.m. and all will be played at Long Field Mauck Stadium on the campus of James Madison University. Come out tomorrow evening and support the United Way and the BBC, and of course your Turks.
