Covington, Va- The Turks came back to beat Covington 7-6 in the make up game that got postponed twice, and then came right back and cruised to victory in the second game 4-1.
These two big wins will help the Turks playoff chances, especially since it was against another team fighting to make the playoffs as well.
The first game started with the Turks up to bat down 6-5 with one out in the bottom of the 11th with no one on. Then without getting a single hit the Turks loaded the bases, and tied the game when Matt Reed walked in the tying run from third Victor Croglio.
In the bottom of the 13th the Turks got off to a great start with back to back singles from Croglio and Nathan Weglarz. Then with one out Parker Brunelle drove in Croglio from third with a sac fly deep to center field to win the game.
Chris Sorce got the win in the contest by pitching two great scoreless innings. In those two innings of work he struck out four of the seven batters he faced. This come from behind win gave the Turks all of the momentum heading into the next game.
With the momentum behind them from the first game the Turks struck quickly and got three runs in the first inning. The Turks got three singles to start the game, and then Mike Schwartz drove in the first two runs of the contest with a two run RBI single. After that Nathan Bryan drove in Jack Posey from third with a sac fly.
The other run the Turks got in the contest came in the fifth inning when Bryan hit a shot down to third that the third baseman could not handle resulting in Posey scoring once again.
That was more then enough run support for the Turk pitchers tonight. Drew Granier led the way pitching six strong innings only giving up one run on three hits and striking out eight. Ed Wakefield, Brad Riddle, and Thomas Nicholls pitched an inning each in that order to close out the game to gives the Turks the win.
Hopefully the Turks can build on the momentum that they created for themselves tonight against a New Market team that has been playing well as of late. The game is tomorrow night at 7:30 in New Market.
