The Harrisonburg Turks would like to announce the addition of Assistant Coach Luke Yost. Yost hails from Elk City, Oklahoma and attended Central Oklahoma University where he played baseball. He transferred from Clarendon Junior College where he hit .365 with nine home runs and 65 RBI to earn All-Conference honors as a freshman. In 2009 Yost put together a stellar season with Central Oklahoma while starting in 51 of 53 games played, hitting .357 with 13 doubles, seven home runs and a team-high 53 RBI, and in 2010 he batted .380 with 11 doubles, eight home runs and team-high 38 RBI.
Luke Yost received a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Health from Central Oklahoma and is currently a Fit-4-Life Teacher for 6th-8th grade & adaptive P.E. He coaches at Edmond Santa Fe High School and has coached the Oklahoma Fuel Select 16U.
One of the highlights of Yost’s playing career was hitting two home runs and tallying 8 RBI in a win over Texas A&M Kingsville. Throughout his college career Yost has played all nine positions, including catcher, which occurred when his teammate became ill on the bus, forcing his coach to ask Luke to catch with no prior experience.
As a coach, Yost believes that it is important to be positive in every situation and give praise and compliments to the players in all types of situations by showing leadership, and having confidence in his players. Luke wants to be a sponge and learn as much as he can from the Turks coaches. With his diverse playing ability from college he believes he is properly prepared to help the players, specifically the hitters, learn and improve on skills.
Luke wants to be a coach who will do anything for his players. He will throw batting practice, hit ground balls and fly balls, and do everything he can to help the players get to the next level. He will not be afraid to be vocal and voice his opinion to help his players.
The Harrisonburg Turks welcome Coach Luke Yost to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Virginia for an exciting summer of Valley League Baseball.
