Some teams have trouble rebounding after a tough loss. The 2012 Turks do not appear to be one of those teams.
Following their first loss of the season, Harrisonburg rode a 9-run sixth inning capped by a Jake Roberts grand slam to defeat the Waynesboro Generals 13-2. Dillon Ortman (1-0) went for six innings and retired six batters while allowing only two runs.
Waynesboro’s Adam Curtis (0-1) took the loss. Curtis allowed only two runs through the fifth, but allowed four of the first five hitters to reach base in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was pulled after two runs scored, but the pitching change would prove futile. Reliever Joseph Lucas would allow three more runs before loading the bases for Roberts’ blast over the center field wall. It was the first home run of the season for Roberts, and the first grand slam of any Turks player this summer. Harrisonburg would tack on two late runs to finalize the 11-run victory.
Harrisonburg will play four consecutive road games following the Tuesday night victory. They will return home Sunday, June 10 for a rematch with the Waynesboro Generals.
