Turks Fly Past Rebels 10-2

W: Charest (3-1)
L: Bug Cox (2-2)
The Rebels look like one of the hottest teams in the Valley, but their momentum couldn’t carry them past the Turks Thursday night as they fell 10-2 in Harrisonburg.

New Market starter Bug Cox couldn’t replicate the magic of his last trip into Harrisonburg after being tagged for seven runs by the end of the first inning. Cox recorded two strikeouts and two walks in a four-inning outing before reliever Caleb Shelley took over. Shelley had better luck from the mound, only giving up one earned run, but the damage was already done. The Rebels (11-12) only managed 2 runs on 4 hits off Joe Charest and couldn’t ever climb back into the game.

Charest’s eight-inning outing was rewarded with an impressive win, his third of the season for the Turks (16-8). He struck out seven batters.

Center fielder Ryan Lee had another nice game at the plate, finishing 3/5 with an RBI. Left fielder David Perkins and first baseman Charles Sheffield also finished 3/5. Fellow Turk Eric Mason hit his third home run of the year.

New Market’s Justin Lacy also smacked a home run, a two-run shot in the top of the sixth. His two RBI’s accounted for the only Rebel runs of the game.
