W: Eric Stout (6-1)
L: Joe Charest (5-3)
Harrisonburg got a shock down in Waynesboro as the Generals topped the Turks 9-0. Waynesboro starter Eric Stout allowed only two hits.
Harrisonburg is certainly prone to spurts of limited offense, but never before this season have the Turks actually been shut out. Yet Stout pitched eight innings and did enough to keep the visitors off the scoreboard. Despite the shutout, Stout’s numbers weren’t terribly impressive– he struck out only one Harrisonburg batter and walked three. Out of 72 pitches, only 40 were called as strikes.
Waynesboro had four players with multiple hits, led by shortstop Caleb Palensky (3 of 4) and left fielder Brandon Murray (2 of 4). Murray’s eighth inning home run netted him 2 RBI as well.
Harrisonburg starter Joe Charest got tagged for 11 hits and 9 runs in 6 1/3 innings. Jake Roberts closed the game out, pitching the final five outs.
Shortstop RJ Perucki and pinch hitter Mark Lumpa recorded the only hits of the game for the Turks.
The Turks will continue their series with the Generals back in Harrisonburg tonight. Game time is 7:30 PM. Harrisonburg faces elimination as Waynesboro can clinch a bid to the VBL title series with a win tonight or tomorrow.
