Charles Town Squeezes by Harrisonburg 3-2
W: Alex Hackerott (2-1)
L: Garrett Ford (0-1)
S: Connor McClain (2)
Locked in another pitching duel, Harrisonburg looked primed to carry a 2-1 lead all the way through nine innings for its eighth straight win. But Charles Town rallied in the top of the sixth inning, scoring the definitive two runs of the game and eventually escaping its first visit to Harrisonburg with a 3-2 win.
Charles Town (10-10) couldn’t generate much offense throughout the night, finishing the game with only five total hits. But one of the five was a double courtesy of designated hitter Matt Durst, who scored after left fielder Waldyvan Estrada chopped an RBI single that drove in Durst to tie the game at two runs apiece. Turks starter Garrett Ford then balked after that, advancing Waldyvan to second base by rule. First baseman Spence Rahm hit the third single of the inning to bring home Waldyvan and ice the final score at 3-2.
Harrisonburg (12-6) had a seven-game winning streak snapped, including the most recent 7-6 victory last night in Waynesboro. Tuesday night’s game was the only regular season home game the Turks will draw against Charles Town; they will play Waynesboro at home on Saturday night.
Ford takes the loss for Tuesday’s game, his first decision of the season. Ford tossed two strikeouts and walked no one. He has a 4.56 ERA through four appearances, all of which have been starts.
Shortstop RJ Perucki, reigning Turks player of the week, finished the game 2 of 4 with one run scored. First baseman Mike Warren finished 2 of 4 with an RBI.
The Turks will be at home against on Thursday evening, hosting rival New Market. They will not play a game on Wednesday.
