Weekly Roundup 3/3/14

Turks season may be months away, but college baseball season is well underway. With the season, previous and future Turks are all in action, with several showing exceptional performances over the last week. Below are some of the standout accomplishments.

University of Texas-San Antonio

  • Jesse Baker (2014) was named Conference USA Player of the Week after going 8-18 with 2 home runs, 7 RBI. On the season he is hitting .357 with 3 home runs and 5 stolen bases
  • RJ Perucki (2011-13) has stayed steady with a .288 average to go along with 14 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in the heart of order
  • John Welborn (2013) is leading the Roadrunners with a .447 average, .681 slugging, and a .544 OBP
  • Mike Warren (2013) is a consistent force as he is hitting .321 with a home run, 15 RBI, and a pair of stolen bases
  • Logan Onda (2013-14) has shut down opponents out of the pen with a .211 AVG against him and an ERA of 1.80 in 10 innings

University of North Carolina-Greensboro

  • Hunter King (2014) has been a force for the Spartans. King clubbed a walk off home run against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in an 11-10 win. King is hitting .347 with 2 home runs, 13 RBI, and a .490 SLUG

Wake Forest

  • John McLeod (2012) has emerged as an ace for the Demon Deacons. Opponents are hitting .174 against him and is leading Wake with 19.2 innings pitched, 20 strikeouts, and a 0.46 ERA
  • Connor Kaden (2013-14) has carried his high strikeout rate over from last summer with 20 strikeouts in 15.2 innings. Opposing batters are managing only a .190 average to go with Kaden’s 2.87 ERA

Duke

  • Chris Marconcini (2011) was named the ACC Player of the Week on 2/24. Marconcini has been one of the most dominant players in the ACC to this point with a .367 average and .612 SLUG to go with 3 home runs, 13 RBI, and 4 steals for the Blue Devils

Auburn

  • Dillon Ortman (2012) has been on of the horses for the Tigers with 15 strikeouts over 17.2 innings. He holds a 2.55 ERA
  • 2013 Valley League Pitcher of the Year, Justin Camp (2013) has 15 strikeouts as well in his 19 innings of work with opponents hitting .247 against him. Camp has a 2.84 ERA

LaSalle

  • Adam Cherry (2013-14) has notched 8 strike outs in 5.1 innings of work with a .238 average against him

Wingate

  • Thomas Spitz (2013-14) is having a wonderful year thus far. Spitz is hitting .393 with 2 home runs, 13 RBI, a .623 SLUG, .449 OBP, and 3 steals
  • Tyler Brown (2014) has been lights out from the bullpen. In his 5 appearances he has managed 11 strikeouts in 9.1 innings or work and a 1.93 ERA with opponents hitting .167 against him

Georgia Tech

  • Thomas Smith (2012-2014) has been an offensive leader for the Yellow Jackets with his .310 average, pair of home runs, and .396 OBP
  • Alex Cruz (2012) has emerged as the ace of the staff. Cruz shut down the Georgia Bulldogs with 2 strikeouts over 5 scoreless innings. On the season, he has a clean 0.00 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 15.1 innings over 5 appearances. Opponents are hitting .204 against him
