Thomas Spitz: Week Two Turks POTW

Thomas Spitz Named Week Two Turks Player of the Week Garrett Ford Receives Honorable Mention

Thomas Spitz (Wingate) has been the one consistency in the Turks oft-changing lineup early in the season. Spitz has been a mainstay at the top of the order through the first quarter of the season.  For the past week, Spitz put his lead off skills to great use getting on base in whatever way possible to set the table for his teammates that follow him.  In 5 games, Spitz went 7-for-21 at the dish including his first two home runs of the season. He also knocked in three RBI over the course of the week to go with five runs scored. Besides getting on base via the hit, Spitz knows how to work a walk too. In Friday’s contest against Strasburg, Spitz worked four walks to get on base five times in the thirteen inning thriller that saw the Turks come out on top 4-3. Spitz had a .440 on-base percentage for the week. Spitz has great cumulative numbers too as he his hitting .370 to go with a .453 OBP and six steals on the young season. Spitz looks to continue being the table setter as the season progresses and the Turks ride a 3-game winning streak entering week 3 of the Valley Baseball League season. HONORABLE MENTION: Garrett Ford’s (Georgia State) dominating 8-inning performance in the Turks 5-4 win over Staunton on Saturday should not be overlooked. On a team with a depleted pitching staff, Ford saddled up and tossed eight innings allowing just two earned runs as he collected his second win of the year.
