Matt Rose: Week Three Turks POTW
Written By Dave Norman
Turks Broadcaster
As I listened to the ninth inning of the Turks Sunday game at Aldie, I had my Player of Week statistics tabulated, reasonable comparisons made and story written. 11 hits and nine runs later, the Turks eruption had sealed what was a close game as a very successful, albeit long, road trip and torpedoed my story!
Way to go guys. So glad to have to recrunch the numbers after a team hit parade like that.
Matt Rose, Thomas Spitz and Garrett Ford all had great weeks again. Several other Turks are really starting to get it going as well: Luke Czajkowski, Joey Roach, Steven McLean, Brandon Gold and Christopher Barr all hit over .300 for the road-warrior week that was.
Eric Kalbfleish hit two of the biggest homeruns of the season at Covington to seal a doubleheader sweep. He and Thomas Smith know the vibe of past Turk championship teams and are warming up at the right time.
The pitchers locked it down as well with Ford, Tyler Brown, Brett Morgan and Gold spinning zero earned runs.
Turks table setter Thomas Spitz had 6 extra-base hits in his .385 week and pretty much lived on the bases for Rose and Co. to drive him in.
Garrett Ford’s complete-game, 2-1 victory at Woodstock was the good vibrations win that not only gave the bullpen the night off but provided the spark for the rest of the road trip.
But in the end, there can be only one:
Matt Rose wins his 2nd Player of the Week Award. Rose was 12 for 27 (.444) with 2 doubles, 1 home run (that the Aldie webcasters said was the furthest they had ever seen at Champe High School) and 6 runs batted in. Congratulations to Matt and the Turks on a find-your-mojo Week 3!
